I think I’ve suffered a minor sunburn maybe once in my life. I never understood why my paler friends would turn a bright tomato red if they were in the sun too long, and how painful it was to get a real sunburn. While most people would lay out at the pool slathering on sunscreen to avoid burn, I’d be googling if it was even worth putting on sunscreen because “would it stop tan?”
Many people would consider our bronze skin a blessing, because we hardly ever burn. However, the truth about the sun is that it is unkind to all skin types if not dealt with properly. It turns out, people with darker skin are just as much at risk from extended sun exposure compared to lighter skinned people. With a new summer heat wave coming in, it’s time to rethink how much you invest in sun protection. Daily sunscreen use does help to protect against the development of fine lines and brown spots from the sun, as well as helps prevent skin cancer.
Even though you may not feel the burn, the sun damage is still being done! Take a moment each day to protect your skin and make sure to apply often to stay skin-cancer free and keep that youthful appearance! It’s just one more step to add to your beauty routine that goes a long way.
